I just purchased a 69 Glastron with a '60 Johnson 75hp motor.
I just did a compression test, and all 4 cylinders checked at 90 psi the manual says that 100 should be the minimum.
I also have no spark, I have almost ordered a new coil and sets of points and condensers....
Am I wasting my time?? Is my compression too low??? Would new rings fix this???
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Dave

Doing all the things you have listed plus putting in a carb kit would probably do the trick. Do you want to invest this much money and time? Can you get another good engine at the same price? This is a decision you and your wallet have to make.

I am going to assume that it hasen't been run in a while. If so I would think that the rings might be gummed up a bit. And if that were the case I would tilt the engine up, squirt a bit of Marvel Mystery oil in each cyl, crank a couple times with the plugs out and let it sit for a day or two. That stuff works wonders. Then take it out and run wide open for a bit.

You might also do a de-carbon job and get compression up.

c/6

Hooty

solittle and Hooty have some good low cost suggestions. If a carb kit and a couple of coils will get you going it will be worth it in my opinion.

Here is an update....
I put in a new coil, pair of points and a condensor.
I also replaced the starter selonoid.
So all i am missing for new parts in the electrical system is the key switch...
I still have no spark
I will run thru all the tests in the manual tomorrow.
Dave

Dave, Are you sure you have checked ignition switch/kill switch. Motor runs with switch open
stops with switch closed.
Try for spark with switch/switches unhooked.
