60 Johnson overheating

Ok here we go 1989 60hp 3 cylinder OMC weak flow from the telltale buzzer going off
Motor had a bad lower unit (had a big hole in it ) so just put a rebuild one on new pump everything. Now same story with the pisser ran it a few minutes in the cove went into limp mode so was told to change the thermostat found one at local dealer can’t get down there till next week to install
Any other suggestions appreciated

What is the operating temp? Check surface temp at the top of the head -- best with an infrared tester.

That’s on my to do list now with the thermostat when i get down there this week thanks

Ok put a new thermostat in early this week and checked temp on head with heat gun and seems to have fixed the overheating problems. In taking the boat out for a test run now will not accelerate as though starving for gas . Noticed gas line leaking where it plugs in the tank I suspect it’s sucking air and thus causing the fuel starvation
Now I’m wondering if it has a fuel filter or screen in the fuel pump that may need replacement
