I have a 1991 60hp Johnson. My compression readings are cylinder 1 (89), cylinder 2 (90) and cylinder 3 (88). My motor begins to shake violently around 20 mph and I cannot gain anymore speed. It doesn't sound like the RPMs are increasing after I hit 20 mph or so. I have disconnected the temperature switch and everything with no change. I have installed a new power pack also with no change. I was provided a lot of helpful things to check and have done so. It appears that the top piston is further back than the other two, does that matter or just where it stopped moving? Now, I am including head images...

The pistons will never be in the same places. Turn the crank and see what happens.
Have you rebuilt the carbs?

Ok #2 doesn't look like it has a hole in it just a piece of carbon that looked funny in the picture. Do the bores look smooth or are there a lot of scratches. Turn the flywheel so the piston is at the bottom of the bore that will give you the best view. Do that to all 3.

All three look and feel smooth. I rubbed my finger all round all three and didn't feel any scratches or grooves. The carbs have been rebuilt also. What are the symptoms of spun prop?
