I have a recently overhauled 60hp mercury bored cylinders and replaced scored pistons original problem was no spark on one cylinder and low compression after overhaul engine ran fine at idle with muffs on the trailer checked for spark with inductive timing light and seemed to be fine put the boat in the water at later date started and ran fine for short time then seemed to lose power put back on trailer and checked for spark none on all cylinders checked everything possible with ohmmeter found stator was reading high on one check was 5.2k should be 4.2 am considering changing stator due to manuals recommendation. I do not have a dva adapter but it sounds like that is a necessity when working on these things. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

With no spark at all it probable is the stator, just a couple thngs have you try disconnecting the black/yellow kill wire at the box and because it first lost spark on 1 cyl. be sure to test the trigger. This is where a DVA pays for it's self.

I've read your stuff before sounds like your very familiar with these things. Yes I checked the trigger and ignition coils with an ohmmeter but that was all I had, I have the stator off and a new one on the way, can you check with a dva when just cranking. I did disconnect the black and yellow wire and checked to be sure the ignition switch was working.

Yes, the DVA tests are done at cranking or idle speed. Just this afternoon we tested a stator for a fellow that had tested it with a OHM meter and the OHM meter said it was good so he brought the engine in a had us test it with a DVA before he put a new one on, when it tested bad he was very nervous but bought a new one, he called in about 1 1/2 hours to say that it ran great, but he still could not understand why the OHM meter said it was good.

If the stator does not fix it then I am going to have it checked by someone with a dva. I wil let you know how it turns out.
Thanks

Not to steal your post, but I have 60hp Mariner that only fires on one cyclinder.... Got any ideas? I'm thinking the switch or the stator????
