60s Evinrude forward problems..Help....

I recently purchased a 60s model evinrude 80hp. The motor starts right up with no problems and runs very smoothly when testing. I took it out to the lake for it's first test drive and it will go into gear, but when put in forward it seems to crawl. It will not plane out and goes very SLOW. When put in reverse it runs great and when in neutral it revs great. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem?

When it is in crawl mode, is the engine racing at high rpms? Or is that at crawl speed also? Makes a huge difference in diagnosis.

When the boat is in the water it gets it's full rpm range in neutral and reverse. When you put it in forward it does not get it's full rpms. It barely goes over idle speed. Could it potentially be something binding in the foot?

Loader, First thing is to check to see if the throttle is opening all the way, when the motor is in forward. Some Evinrudes had devices whaic did not allow you to shift out of neutral, if the throttle was set too high. This may be out of adjustment or broken.

I have checked the throttle, and all linkages are working as they should be. Carberator is opening up full range in both gears and neutral. I spoke to a marine shop today and they told me to try cleaning the carberators. So, that's what my evening has in store for me. I will let you all know the outsome of that. If anyone has any more suggestions, I am definately open to them! Thank you so much for your help!
