You are also missing the pulse line from that cut out switch? Or did you just remove it temporarily? It attaches to the barb on the bottom.

The black wires don't go directly from the points to the key switch. 1 does, the other goes to the cutout, then another black wire goes from the same post on the cutout to the other M post on your key switch. Does you key switch have 2 M posts on it?

+1 Good catch. One wire directly to the kill switch, the other to the vacuum switch, then on to the push-button. Both wires should connect to the "M"(magneto) pole on the back of the switch itself. You'll also need to get some small crimp on eyes for the points end and some female connectors for the switch end. I forget the exact gauge wire they use, but if snip off a bit and take it to the store, it should be easy to match up. I would try to get black too, just so it will match any diagrams you may have.

Thank you for that diagram Chris.

so, how would this schematic change with no kill switch but ran to the ignition?

The line I'm pointing at above, if I ran just that to the ignition key "off", that would work?
(thank you for your patience)

yes, tank has been vented.

No you need the 2 black wires coming from the points to kill the motor completely. 1 to each M post on the key switch.

Finally got it put together and on the water last night. Thank you for the Help everyone!!

It was a much smoother idle. the motor really does want to go.
shot around the lake, stopped and fished for an hour and then would not start. flooded i believe and the bottom plug was more wet compared to the top.

I took pics early on but missed a good view of this side of the carb.
Am I missing a spring or arm in that open hole in the brass? if so, what would it connect to?

thanks again!

Once you attach the recoil you will see where the rod from the lockout lever attaches to that hole.

Thanks High Trim, looks like that part was missing from my engine when I purchased it. Hopefully it won't mess the performance up.. would it?

so far items replaced: plugs, plug wires, coils, condensers, points, gas lines, gas tank. Fuel pump rebuild, carb rebuild.

I took it out yesterday on Murray Lk and had my wife run the throttle while I dialed in the jets, as well explained here on this great forum. It took off like crazy and we both had some solid grins. Didn't catch any Crappies but returned home happy. Took it out today and it would not start in the loading ramp! Rumbled and seemed to miss then pass out. ticked me off. Points are set at .20 and plugs at .30. (used no timing light). took it home put fresh fuel in it and it started up. (I do need to have the starter rebuilt, just clicks sometimes, then tap it with metal and it turns over..) The previous fuel was fresh with a little bit of older added (2-3 months).
It does seem to run better in the 40:1 oil/gas mix vs 24:1 gas mix range.
Took plugs out, they looked just a bit wet and dark, can send a pic it helps.
I took a video of it here with the new gas in it. Starts with it in idle I then put it in full throttle and there is not much of a difference in rpm. I assume this is because the prop is not engaged.

I'm mostly wondering if this motor sounds good while in Idle and when I put it in full throttle ?
doesn't seem right. I am planning on taking it out Friday morning for another run. let me know if there is anything else i should check. with premium tc-w3 oil would 50:1 be ok?
Thank you Much for your help!
