63 40 HP Johnson

Hi guys new here and pretty new to boating. I just got a boat from my dad and its got a 63 40hp johnson eltramatic on it. My dad ran it a couple of years ago and he said gas was coming out the carb. Now what should I do to mke this motor ready for a season on the lake???? Any adive would be helpfull. I am an ASE certified mechanic but never have touched a boat motor so I can find my way around preety easy just need some info. Thanks

Probably a stuck or misadjusted float. After two years of sitting it'll need a carb rebuild anyway. Should do a water pump after sitting a couple of years too.

That is a good reliable engine and will give you years of service once you get it up and running.

Thanks for all the info and advice guys. Have a factory manual on its way but I am sure I will be back asking for some more info.
