'63 Lark V 40 HP Fuel problem

Ok... I have been rebuilding this machine for about 2 months... (first atempt at anything to do with putting my own boat together) Took a while but finally got the wiring put all together... everything is clean... new plugs.. compression is good.. hooked up the fuel tank and started putting the fuel into the motoro with the bulb... the fuel came out of the vent hole where the choke is.... I am pretty sure this is not normal... please help!!!

Not to sound dumb... just because I AM dumb on this one... where would I find the float valve??

You have to take the carburetor apart to get at that. You need a repair kit to put it back together. That would be all the gaskets and stuff. An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) kit will have a new float included. An aftermarket (generic) kit won't.

Ok... done and fixed.. the motor is now getting engine... spark... and even started for about 5 seconds... there appears to be a seal or a bolt or something missing on the front of the motor near the lean/rich switch... (see picture) Is this hole supposed to have something in it?? the motor will start, and run for 3 - 4 seconds... then cut out. Almost like it is flooding itself or choking itself out,.

Nope, that hole has to be open. It is the bowl vent.

looks like my carb and mine is on a '62 Johnny 40 don't think anything goes in the hole, mine works great.

Perfect.... I got it running... YEAH!!!! but... it will not idle at low speeds... this motor has been out of water for 6 years... and this is the first time it has been started since I bought it... are there any adjustments that are needed to be made in order for it to idle at low speeds? (havent put it in the water yet... just using a tub, but starting to get ansy...)

For a good, reliable slow speed idle, you need to clean and set your point gap, gap the sparkplugs, and generally make sure your ignition is in top shape. Next you'll need to adjust your low speed mixture on the carburator. I'm not sure if you have a high speed needle on your carb; if so it will require adjustment also. There are hundreds of posts outlining over and over again how to adjust these settings, just do a quick search.

like was said earlier. make sure that the plugs are gapped correctly and point gap is sufficient. You might be able to adjust idle screw from your control cable. If that doesnt help then take your idle screw in on your carb till it just seats then back it out 1 and a half turns out. see how it runs. Then take it to the water. start it up and ajust the needle bac in till the motor starts to stall out. bring screw out maybe a 1/4 turn and you should be good to go
