64 40hp johnson

Can any one tell me anything about these 40 hp 1964 johnsons. I am concidering buying this hooked on a 59 starcraft. but dont want to give more than it's worth. I got a good guess on the boat not sure of motor. its one of those never had in water deal "must sell" etc...

Good reliable motor, OMC's bread and butter of the day. Is it complete? I see no electrical cable attached to the motor. All that stuff is part of the motor.

mechanical shift is a plus on that motor. i would have killed for one of those several years ago.

Yea, its kind of a gamble when they can't demo the motor. I would assume the motor suffers from lack of use (at a minimum). What I learned on this site is, it will likely cost you something to get back in good running order.
I recently picked-up a project motor. A '62 Johnson 28hp for $50. I was told its a good runner, but that was a 2-3 years ago. For $50, I'm not taking a huge financial risk.

He wants 850.00 for the whole package 59 starcraft W/motor and trailer. I think thats about top dollar in spring or summer. I really dont need another boat but it looks nice. I may have to go see.

Here, with that trailer it is well worth it, if motor checks out.

Yea, its looks to be worth that much but not a great deal. With all of the projects I have I guess I will let this go. He's had it for sell a while now. I hope someone buys it soon so it quits tempting me
