I honestly don't even know..I have the manual and it does not specify what kind..I talked to an omc mechanic and he said screw in but I'm not sure...I just aquired this motor not too long ago and it did not have it in there...The mechanic said I will have problems finding 1. Thanks for the reply

Also to ad , where the fuse goes is a tight small space and there are no threads to screw into..it looks like there are 2 holds which I guess kind of look like claws/hands on each side to hold in place wth a screw...thanks again

Guys, he is talking about the 60 amp alternator fuse in the junction box. It is a ceramic fuse with an exposed fusable strip. It comes as an assembly. It is held to the positive heat sink by one screw and a wire attaches to the tab by another screw.

It is part number 378456, superceded by 379788 from an Evinrude dealer. It's about 40 bucks, so you might want to wire in a fuseholder for another fuse type.

Re: 64-65 johnson meteor 90hp/Fuse

It's been about 30 years since I stuck my nose in one of those junction boxes, so forgive the hazy memory. But I sort of remember you can loosen the heat sink and slide it out a bit for better access to the fuse.

I suggest a trip to an auto parts store to see what they have. I know that adequate cheap fuses are available. But a holder that is adequate for that much current might be a problem. However, I'd say you can get some 10-gauge wire and some terminals to hook it up and make your own. I'll bet the fuse will work with some ordinary slide-on wire terminals (??). Even if your concoction is 6-8" long, you can coil it up and stuff it in the box.
