Hello 1st post,

I was given this boat from a neighbor who upgraded to something else and wanted it out of his driveway.

Was going to be a project with my nephew but he seems to have lost interest and I am really not sure I want to start dumping time and money into my first boat.

On the registration it says it is a "runabout" but on the tag inside the boat it is labeled "Westfield 7470". The deck of the boat looks like it is fiberglass and the hull looks solid although the transom needs work. The boat overall looks in OK shape. The motor a Evinrude / Johnson 55 HP is not running and seen better days. I was told it needed a new power-pack but who knows.

Anyway its sitting in my driveway and since I found this forum researching the boat and spent some time reading some good post's here I though I would make a post myself.

A runabout is a type of boat shaped like that one, like a sedan is a 4 door type of car. Westfield is MFG's model name for that boat, like Chevy makes a model called Impala. Your Westfield is all fiberglass (except maybe the transom) so it can't rot. Check through other posts on this forum & you'll see many. Expect it to have a very long life.

A44, you sound reluctant! So was I. I have the same motor, odd, but as far as I am concerned, one of the best motors ever. Easy to get running, and there is lots of help here!
As far as boat and motor combo, you cannot buy a better set up, especially for a first boat. MFG's are tough, simple, easy to handle, and the folks here have seen it all.
I got mine about 12 years ago, and I was a VERY reluctant and un-knowledgeable(is that a word?) owner, I can tell you I have never spent less to enjoy a boat so much!

I have the same boat and after some rewiring and a new transom, it's become a great part of my families summers. Looks like you have a nice one to start with.

Thanks for the replies guys, I took the motor off and will tarp the boat for the winter. The previous owner gave me the manuals for the motor so I can hopefully troubleshoot the problems.

We will see how it goes, but I'm glad I ran across this forum.
