print out the pricing from Summit Racing & AutoZone will match it ;)
That'll make 3 gals = price of 2!

InMotion
has had some interesting results on his 1964 Jet w/ VERY little effort using Safe Strip:

For your aluminum trim needs, find something that will work, and if necessary form it like in the Glen-L windshield link above. Not simple, but not impossible....

aluminum extrusions, aluminum extrusion, aluminum extrusion hinges, aluminum extrusions miscellaneous, aluminum radius extrusions, aluminum roof bows extrusions, aluminum extrusion angles, aluminum extrusion bottom rails

Re: 64 Starchief Resto

I use the aircraft remover also but i will def print out the other price to get a price match. i have only bought one gallon of it so far. as for the windshield i cant use the L shape because there isn't a way for me to attach it. if you look in the pics my piece is just a z form and so far no luck in finding it anywhere. I am going to make a run today hopefully to some metal shops and see what i can come up with.

Hey Matt - Welcome to the madness. I see you you found one of the rare Garden Editions. Better get some weed killer along with the stripper. LOL She should be fun to re-do with your Dad and give both of you years of fond memories.

Skip 2 grand to make new windshield trim. Yikes! I think one of the links is how to form the plexi. You will prob need to be inventive for the trim. At least you have some of it so you know what shapes are needed, but it doesn't need to be exact. Close and some gasketing will do the trick. It's work to actually restore these babies to showroom. That's why most of us bring them back to functional life and do what we can as far as originality and what fits our own ideas.

Keep the pics coming and have fun!

Re: 64 Starchief Resto

After looking around all day and talking to people i came up with an idea that will work as long as i can find the right dimenshions, Instead of looking for a z channel i'm going to buy some H channel and form it right to the opening of the winshield. I'm going to cut one of the upper portions off so if the channel started out as an H if will not be a h Ill use the remaining lip as the forward holder and just like the origanal windshield ill get a piece of flatstock and come in from the inside of the shell and rivet through and pinch the windshield to hold it in. At least that is my plan, lol

That sounds like a good plan, matt. Some form of gasket for cushioning/sealing and you're good to go.

Jb, autozone refused to match the pricing of summit so we sd we wont be back. 42 dollars after tax compared to summit 21.95. Looks like I'll be online shopping

Re: 64 Starchief Resto

The AutoZone here was no questions asked, & matched price w/out shipping........

I'd call their cust serv dept:
(800) 288-6966
They maybe open today, it's starts as an automated Q&A, but push 2 for questions about a local AZ, and it prompts you to enter your zipcode.

I got the price match info from another SC mob'r (Rrumba), and had no problem buying a gallon on 2 different occasions from different clerks. Sorry if your AZ didn't match....

EDIT: I looked it up, & Rrumba is the 1 that mentioned price matching @AZ, and suggested the Summit low price online, saved me @$13/gal, no shipping.........

Re: 64 Starchief Resto

yea the guy at the counter was actually a jerk to my father so we told him we won't be coming back. We actually shop there a lot but not if they are going to be like that. We will just buy straight from summit.

Winshield is out and in one full piece including the side patch pieces. Going to be alot of work fixing the remaining trim since there are about 100 holes in it but we are excited to have it come out and think it will be an ok project to talkle.

Nice, most of these old chiefs don't have their top windshield.

And my lower windshield was replaced at one point in it's life, the way they installed the top trim worked... but cheesy... I'm still thinking of a way to clean it up.

Re: 64 Starchief Resto

Good news getting the W/S out in one piece. The plexi seems to get fragile after a few years. How big is the bow hatch? Seems a lot bigger than most I've seen. You and your Dad are getting her cleaned out.
