65' Fastwin Gear Oil Leakage

My 1965 18HP Fastwin had frothy grey lower unit gear oil. I replaced the oil and the same thing has happened. There seems to be frothy oil leaking from a "weep" hole in the lower unit. Is this a seal problem or something more. Please Help!!!!!

Hi Jim<br />First thing to check is the fill and vent plug gaskets. Replace them with new. Remove prop and check propshaft for fishing line, grass,etc. Get a hand vacuume pump and test lower unit. Presure test with a hand bicycle pump. If your oil is gray and frothy as you say. It's probly time for a reseal.

Thanks Alcan, Is there a seal kit available, or would I be better served by taking it to the shop? Not real knowledgable on what is involved.

Hi Jim<br />If you are not mechanical, (and thats ok)I would have it repaired at a reputable shop. How ever if you like to tinker and are some-what handy, I would suggest that you obtain a manual and study up. This should let you know if it is something you want to try. An if not you will better understand what your paying someone else to do. This is not a real tough job for the person who knows what their doing and has the tools. Don't forget we will be here to answer questions.

Jim,<br /><br />Do the fill and drain plug gaskets (o'rings) first. They are cheap.
