I have a 650 65Hp Mercury not sure what year but am guessing late 70's. It ran great up untill last week and now has no spark. The motor has 3 cylinders 1 coil and a distributer. The rotor is attached to a shaft and cannot be removed seperately. I have access to a parts motor that supposably ran but has no bottom end. I have switched out (not knowing if the spare parts are good) the coil, distributor, wires and the CDI box, still with no spark. I was told that the problem may be the stator. Does this motor have a stator that will affect ignition, there are wires that lead under the flywheel. If so what are some easy checks to make? Would it be worth while pulling the flywheel and switching out the startor with a spare? I am missing out on some prime time fishing and need some help. Any and all will be very much appreciated. Thanks, Fella

Re: 65 HP Mercury NO SPARK

Thanks for your reply, the dealers here want $85/hr to troubleshoot. How would I determine the exact year of the outboard? Also do you know from what years that the parts are interchangeable?

Thanks again.
