I bought a 15' boat with the mentioned motor real cheap a few weeks ago. She wouldn't start for me, so I replaced the wiring harness because the wires where orginal and shot. Then low and behold she turned over. Now it starts on a regular basis (it has twice now), but the thing won't turn off when I turn the key back to off position.

It wants to stop, but then picks back up and keeps running. I think this motor has sat for while before I got my hands on it. Any ideas, or anyone know way to stop it without pulling the - battery terminal? Is there a kill switch?

Thanks

Your white wire from your ignition switch must be getting 12v+ from the battery somehow. It could be a short in the ignition switch, harness, or Engine wiring. Recheck your wiring at your ignition switch first. Since your harness is new check the engine harness and wiring at your switch box next.

My 73 Merc 500 did the same thing...turned out the white wire/terminal was bad in the ignition switch. Second time it took off and wouldn't shut off I had to manually choke it to death...not the best option but it works.

See if you are getting 12V at the white wire at the switch box with the key off.
