This engine will not take a load. First it was only running on the #2 cylinder, so I rebuilt all three carbs because it had good spark. Now the engine runs on all three cylinder or atleast acts that way. it would take a small load a little better today but would die out within 10 seconds and was a pain to restart. i have replaced plugs, fuel lines, tank pickup, cap(vent), rebuilt the carbs, etc. the engine is a '73 evinrude 65hp. i am at wits end. Never had a problem like this with other engines. what about the coils, etc.?? It has a good spark but could they still be shot. Also the engine runs great in driveway but if rpm's it will sometimes begin to miss a little..Any suggestions on where to proceed..

I too am in the position of not getting a deluge of replies to my questions either...honestly I am new at this outboard stuff, but if I had to venture a guess on automotive knowledge I would say you had a fuel supply problem, either you are getting too much or too little, I would further speculate that you might need a fuel pump, or perhaps if there is a fuel filter somewhere in there I would replace it, it could also be that your carbs aren't adjusted properly, my best suggestion and it's not that great, (I have to be modest or risk being flamed by those people who seem to know everything but are never around when you need them). I would recommend getting a manual, and if money is tight and you don't want to spend $30 or so for a manual, you could go to your local library and see if they have a manual and then copy what you need, or try to buy one off of e-bay. I wish you the best of luck. and I'm sorry I couldn't be too much more help.

This is the fifth and last attemp I will make to this post. For some reason your post will not take replies. Get off of your high horse about the lack of responses to your post. Do you think that people sit around on this site 24 hours a day to be at your beck and call. We are boat owners just like you with jobs, families, and other interests. This forum has some very quality people that are donating their time. Joe Reeves, JB, and others that I know I have left out. If you are not getting replies then either they can't reply for whatever reason or they don't know the answer. Your problem could be a simple as an iginition coil. Do you have spark to all cylinders? If not replace the offending coil. I have only seen one person get flamed on this site and that is because he demanded an answer a half hour after his problem was posted at 11:00 at night.

Nick.

I replied to your first post, and promptly.

I invited you to do a search on engines that lose power under load, then get back to us.

It takes about 15 minutes to retype the same set of advice I have typed 50 times in the last month, and there are 150 posts a day to review.

You don't appear to have taken my advice.

You are on your own, dude.
