Hello well the weather is getting better around here and I want to start getting things ready for the season. Last year was the first season for my 40hp and me it treated me well. when I drained the oil for winter I found it had taken on water. I had done a crack repair last year with JB weld that still could be a issue. The motor also had sat a long time before I got it back up and runing. I'm sure the seals in the bottom end are not so great . I was thinking of changing the seal and see if it clears up the the water/oil issue. I have looked at a few blow ups of the bottom end to see how it is assembled.

Is the seal replacement a big deal ???

I have not actually looked at the motor yet (hope to uncover boat today).

I hope someone else will post because I have the same outboard and just bought the Sierra kit for the electric shift. Search on boat motor parts on Iboats, it's arround 40$ for the kit.

Replacing the seals is not that hard, IF you have the original repair manual to guide you. And it's not a quickie job: prepare to spend some quality time with it.

Do I need to remove all the water pump?
Do I need a seal puller and where can I get that?

They are still great outboards!
