new to boating,,have this nice old runabout,,,it has an evinrude lark VIII 40horse,,i was told it was a 66mod motor,,well it has no kill switch,,looks like it was sitting in a garage for 20 years, runs strong out of water with the hose, anxious to see what it will do in the water,,not expecting any kind of speed tho,,,i need some instruction on installing a kill switch/lanyard deal to make it legal in alabama,,,do i get a "connect" switch and wire it into the two m wires? and will that not hurt anything while the key switch is still in the "on" position?

A kill switch is required in your state? The facists are at it again!

thanks ezeke,,,and chris 1956,the law here seems unclear,,it says any boats under 24 ft,having open cockpit and 50hp or over,,,then another says under 16ft,,,so im really not sure, might have to give the facists a call and see for sure,,thanks,,,,,,,,,,,michael

I thinks so.

BTW, facists or not, the emergency kill switch is a good idea.

If one does not care about his own safety, he still should be concerned about the safety of others.

I am all for safety, however, anyone who is dumb enough to get thrown out of a boat with only 40HP is a positive way to deepen the gene pool. I have seen factory installed kill lanyards on 8HP motors. Obviously that is the work of the NY Attorneys for some tort-based law case, and the facists have capitalized on it.

yeah i wanna be safe not sorry and be legal so,i think its a good move,,just want to install it right so not to burn anything up or break out the wallet,,,the skinny wallet,,,,gotta patch a 3x3 soft spot, the usual spot where everyone stands on a tiny 14ft r ,already cut it out,,everything else really solid and nice,,gave her a buffing yesterday,,all the oxidation disapeared ,looks like a shiny martini olive
