66' johnson 20hp no spark

I have a 66 Johnson 2stroke 20 horse, it has new points, coils, and condensers, I took off the fly wheel and the 2 little wires coming off the coils to the ground screws were worn to the bare wire. It looks like the fly wheel did it, the wires were not moved over far enough. It had to have run for a while before it did it, but now I have no spark. please any sugg. model fd-20c.Did it short out the coils and condensers and if so how do I check them?

JasonCar - Just so we're on the same page:<br />There ought to be two wires coming out of each of the ignition coils. One runs to the terminal on the coil's point switch where it connects up with the condensor and kill wire, and the other simply gets grounded at one of the ignition coil's screws. I've got the impression you're talking about the wire that runs to the ignition coil's screw. If so, that should not keep the coil from producing sparks unless it is worn right through. You can test it by checking the resistance between the post on the ignition coil's point and ground on the engine somewhere. For this test, the point must be open. You should read about 1 ohm.<br /><br />Another idea: What condition is the flywheel key in? Look close.<br /><br /><br />And welcome to Iboats!

Make sure the grounding wire to the kill switch or button is not grounded. Make sure the rubbing blocks on the points are not worn off from lack of lube.<br /><br />Paul

the ground wires were the ones that were bare, the points are opening and closing plus i reset the points, the key is new. What are the points supposed to be also?
