Took the cowling off. The fuel line from the top tank is disconnected. The external tank line is connected to that little black box on the side. The little brass spigot (shut off valve)has no way of having it "either way" top tank or external tank. Whats up ? Am I missing a part or did the previous owner changed the little black box to only take the external tank ?

Also... how much gas is in the top tank and how long would it last ?

George

The '66' did not have an external tank option. That was done later. It either works on the integral tank (standard) or the external, not both.

The black box is a fuel pump. It too, was added later.

The tank has capacity for about 1 hour worth of gas at full throttle. It can hold a little over half a gallon.

Ratgeo,

I have a '66' Evinrude 3-same engine. That engine will troll all weekend on far less than a gallon.

I dare say it would run for a month on a seperate six gallon tank. :)

It wouldn't be hard to plumb in a valve to accomodate both systems and allow one to switch from the external tank to the top-mounted tank. Both could run off the fuel pump, as the top-mounted tank wouldn't care one way or another if it was feeding via gravity or fuel pump....
- Scott

So... was the external fuel line added later ? I figure all I would have to do to make it a top tank system is disconnect the external line to the pump and reconnect the internal one... right ? George P.S. Sorry to sound like such a dope.
