Just got my first boat a few days ago! I bought it through an auction for pretty cheap. It’s looking like it’s going to be a total restoration project.

I know almost nothing about boats (despite living on one for a few years of my life) but it looks there there is a wealth of information here and I’ve already read through several threads about 60s Larson restorations.

From what I can see, it looks like I’m going to have to completely redo the transom and floor and go from there. Any tips on where to start would be greatly appreciated as I’m feeling a little overwhelmed already.

Thanks!

Take a million pictures and measurements of everything. And just start ripping it out.

Hey welcome aboard,
Nice old rehab there. Read thru the stickies above and surf some of the current rehabs. A few larsons have been on here.

I agree, Pics and measurements from every direction IS your first task. Then remove everything from the interior and then cut out and remove the deck. some Larsons had ALL Glass Stringers and if yours does then you are BLESSED. Transom needs to be core sampled too!

Are the core samples for determining the condition of the transom? I found this crack inside, and it's also cracked on the outside where those sheet metal strips were attached so I assume it needs replaced.

I was able to spend some time getting everything out of the boat this afternoon. I did manage to get a small section of the floor up before calling it quits and getting ready for some football. Not sure if this is enough to get an idea of what I'm working as far as the stringers go or not.

I'd drill down thru the top of those exposed stringer about 2 " and see if you get dry wood shavings.

Looks like that's a negative. I haven't found that envelope full of 100 dollar bills I expected to be hiding somewhere in the boat either :(

For now I am going to keep working on tearing everything out. I'm still trying to get a hold of a cherry picker to get the motor off.

Thanks for all of the advice so far!
