I've been breaking a sweat over my grandfather's old merc 110 for a week now. Finally got it to where it will start, however, it won't stay going.
I've checked these things...
-plugs are new
-engine is getting fuel as far up as the carb float (I've taken apart the carb & cleaned it)
-gas tank & fuel line is new.
I've even gotten it to run at full power for a few seconds (have it sitting in a big tank of water.) But it never takes long to cut out & die.
I'm at loss for what to do other than perhaps replace the plug leads? Any other ideas? Any help would be appreciated...Thanks!

try the merc forum, the post will probably get moved there shortly.

a few small points, is the timing set properly?
Has it had a link and sync?

N.B. Don't ever rev the engine to full power in a barrel. Engines need to push into a load (prop in water) when being reved up. In neutral in a barrel of water, don't push it above 1500 - 1700 rpm.
