Re: What am I about to get myself into?
I'm BACK!
Alright, so here's why I haven't been working on the boat lately.
So around November I started getting nearly constant headaches. I thought they were being caused by a tooth that had been bothering me, and in fact was absessed along with another one I didn't know was also absessed. After a couple of root canals, my teeth were fixed, but I was still getting the migraines so I saw a regular doctor about them last month. He sent me for a CT scan and long story short, two weeks ago I had a marble sized tumor removed, and two others that were a bit larger but more difficult to get to biopsied. Anyway, that's why I haven't been working on the boat as of late. With the incision and stitches in my head, the doctors said I could do anything I did before, except get dusty/dirty/wet (at least my head anyway) for at least a week. I didn't tell you all because I didn't want to worry you, besides, at that point we really didn't know much either. Anyway, when the lab got the results back last week, they called to tell me that they would discuss the results with me when I went in this morning to have the stitches removed, so that had us worried. Good news this morning though, all three were benign calcified tissues. The bad news is that they said these types of calcified tissues can be an indicator of colon cancer... and given my history with acid reflux/heartburn, they want me to drink a barium milkshake and have my GI tract looked at in a few weeks. But for now I've been cleared to get dirty again.
So of course when I got home, after taking a much needed shower
with shampoo, I got to work on the boat again. I just poured the rest of the seacast (and as I expected, I had about 3 gallons left over, but like I said, better too much than too little). I'm now about to get suited up and go finish grinding on the upper deck. It sure feels good to be back in the saddle again. I'll post the pic I promised you with me being all suited up with the tape and all, in a bit.
PS - I'm not too worried about the colon cancer thing, because only about 2 years ago when I saw my doc about the constant heartburn, he sent me to have endoscopy done, and they didn't find anything serious (just a doudenal hernia and a couple places where all the extra acid was irritating the lining of my stomach). So the odds that I've now got colon cancer is slim.
