My motor has a damaged upper bearing where the races have dropped out, that I am unable to remove. I'd imagine it should be a press fit, but my early 50hp manual and the later mid 70s 55hp aren't specific. My eyes aren't what they were, but it looks like it has a thread? Is this the case?

No threads anywhere on the crank.
Except the top where the flywheel nut goes.

That bearing on the top is a press fit.
With a bearing separator and a press and an acetylene torch it will come loose.

The picture shows red circles?? that bearing has locator holes that need to line up with dowel pins in the block.
There might??? be 2 there?? can't see under the crank.
These HAVE to be fit in or the crank won't turn free.

Thanks both, I put it through a commercial press and separator this morning and it popped out. Apologies, was a red herring, but the red circles were there before. This motor blew it's gasket last weekend, but for years before the crank must have been at a slant to put such wear marks in both top and bottom bearings. It's recoverable and I like this motor, for it's overall lightness and willingness to work hard, so your help much appreciated to get it back on the water.
