'67 Mercury still needing aid

Hi all,
My recently purchased '67 Mercury, 3.9 hp, single cylinder is almost ready to use. I need a little help from the group first, though.
Issue # 1: I've removed and replaced the propeller foot from the lower leg unit four times now. Using pliers, I can easily shift the foot transmission into neutral, then by hand move the shift lever into neutral and the entire lower leg slips into place with minimal effort. I can start the engine and everything is still in neutral, just great. However, once I shift to "forward" I cannot get the shift lever to cause the bottom unit to return to neutral or to reverse. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong and how I can fix the problem? (side note, I had a devil of a time removing a frozen and non functional impeller and replacing it)
Issue #2: When first started, the engine will only contiue to run if I squeeze the primer bulb to insure fuel supply. If I prime it long enough (a half hour or so), eventually it will run without being primed. I'd love to know how to get the engine to run normally without the need to squeeze the primer bulb on the fuel supply from the gas tank. Anyone care to offer a suggestion? (note, ignition all new and now "correct" it works fine)
Issue #3: I would love to find the pieces to make the tilt/trim functional again. I've been using a grade eight, six inch long, 1/4 inch OD bolt, wing nut and washer to fix the engine inclination. An ugly solution. I don't even know what pieces are missing though I've been told that at least part of it is spring loaded. Can any of you help me with this problem?
