1 st question did you assemble the coils and wires yourself. are you sure the pin in the coil, hit the center of the spark plug wire, also on the plug end, i always strip back the insulation and wrap the wire around the spring connector, before putting the boot on. sure points are adjusted correctly.

link in sinc, is coodinating the spark and fuel advance. it is in the manual for your specific motor.

Gotta ask...did you replace plug wires when you did the coils? If so, check connections everywhere under the flywheel...make sure connections are tight and clean. Could be a condensor trying to die, or just a faulty coil...I've gotten a few dinkers in the past. If you want to check the coils, swap them and see if the problem follows the coil...that will narrow it down. Link-n-synch is setting/synching the carb to the spark advance. A service manual will tell you how to do it...not familiar with your 68 so I'll wait for others who are to chime in. Not a hard process though.

Didn't change the plug wires. I did ohm out my old coils and one of them was bad I also ohmed my new ones, they are good. Maybe I should just change the wires point and condensors and go from there, huh?? But it acts alot like it did before I put the new coils on. It does idle down but still misses.

Wouldn't hurt to first swap the plugs wouldn't be the first time for a premature plug failure. Then swap coils; if problem stays you know its other than coil. Are coils lined up with the stator plate bosses?

OK, I swapped the coils, same. I swapped the condesors, same. Points are opening good. I filed with emery board. Could it be a plug wire. How do you get the plate off to change the plug wires. Yes, coils are lined up with boss. I dont get any spark on the bottom cyl. I am using the same spark plu to test both cylinders.

four screws in the center of the plate. if i remember correctly, the 2 silver shiney screws in picture, and 2 of the screws that went thru the coils.

If your wires are original they are 40 years old. I always replace plug wires when changing coils.

Yea, I think they are original. And I will replace them. But, I found my problem. These motors have, or in my case HAD!! a kill switch on the front of them. Mine is gone but the two wires are still in the screw in the points. The one on the bottom cylinder had a direst shot to ground. I assume a bare spot unable to see. I unhooked it and now have fire to both cylinders. Frustrating but fullfilling at the same time>
