wambs8 - Not sure what you mean by "make sure the motor stays on the transom." Wouldn't I have to remove the motor if I were to replace the transom?
Sorry, my message wasn't clear/overly dramatic. If you decide to use the boat this season take "osborn159" advise and use gently especially if the transom is in bad shape. Even if the transom is bad the top 2 bolts of the motor mount probably go through the splash well (which is one with the cap), so the mount is not hanging solely off the transom. Seeing the shot at the bilge it looks like the Previous owner laid down bare plywood over the deck.(gee was he trying a cheap repair) Love the classic lines on the older boats. Why some people don't want to refurb these older boats is beyond me. I guess some people have money to burn, so they buy new.

Yeah, I think the majority of use it'll get this season is trolling around Strawberry Reservoir at idle speed. The only exception will be in going to the next spot on the lake when needed, but I will take it easy.

I am going to do some minor engine work/repair this spring, here's the link to my thread on that:
http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=386739

While I'm doing that I'll get her up on some supports & give the outer hull a thurough inspection, just to make sure there's not any major damage by the keel. I'd hate to get her out on the lake & end up having to tow her back to the marina with a rope while swimming.....

I completely agree though. I'm new to this, so I'll enjoy her this year as much as I can and when I'm not with the family, fishing, or working I'll be searching the forum here & begin making a "battle" plan. I'll come up with a time frame & schedule everything out. So, now it's a matter of finding some good threads to follow, similar to micks110, so that I can come up with a step-by-step for myself.

I have decided to stick with a wood-core build regarding the transom, stringers, & deck. This should save some money, but still provide a solid finished prduct. I would also like to look into building in my gas tank so it's not this big ugly red monstrosity on my deck. Would that go into the front bow? I would appreciate continued feedback & advice on where I should start, what materials I should look into, methodology of fiberglassing, and any other general expert advise.

http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/projectTut,p,78,00.htmlThis guy did a nice job permanent mounting a fuel tank under the bow of the boat along with a filler cap on the front of the boat I have been thinking about doing this because I want to have two batteries in the rear and move the tank up front. Before I do, I plan on adding some weight up in the front that would kind of simulate what a full tank of gas would do to the handling of the boat.
