Re: '68 Holiday-V 120 Mercruiser I/O

oh man .. im SO jealous .. that is exactly what i would like to have .. i have me a 14 foot 1977 holiday and 1968 15' jet star .. i would trade both for yours in 2 seconds. After my restorations are done, i'll use my holiday for a season and start looking for just this model and size. That boat looks MINT .. the outdrive doesn't even appear to have a scratch on her. You are VERY lucky to have her. Congrats
Tempted chrisp but as this is my first boat I'll keep her :D

Although I'm no stranger to boats, I worked on cruise ships for 11 years in that time helped out the ships safety officer with training the crew how to use the lifeboats/tenders and my favorite a 14ft semi ridged rescue boat (350hp jet drive 50knots and turn on a dime.) Being a diving instructor as well on the ships boats are in my blood so to speak

The metal line should be fine...blow some air through her to make sure she's free from any goo...but there hardly ever is any problems..If there is, take it off and soak in carb cleaner.

Thanks Kev, I took my gas tank to an local boat repair shop and they cleaned the inside of all the gunk/sludge. the look on this face was priceless  how old is this tank he asked? He said that it's like new inside. I mentioned about getting new hoses from W/M

He told me to get regular car radiator hose for the Filler hose and regular rubber hose for the vent hose is this correct?

Regards,

Scott

No i really would advise against what he said, all marine fuel hoses have a AB1 or 2 rating for flame retardation...its a safety thing

That's what I was thinking, the worst thing for any vessel is fire, Fire and boat drill's once a week for 11 years it tends to get wedged into ones gray matter ;)

Funny how we know better..But some dufus with greasy hands at a shop tells you something and then we question what we really knew, or thought we knew..But for the record..I quote..

Fuel Hose: When fuel hose is used it must be either USCG Type A1, USCG Type A2, USCG Type B1 or USCG type B2. Where you use it determines what type you use.

From the fuel inlet on the engine (usually the fuel pump) to the carburetor you must use Type A1 or A2.

Each fuel vent line or fill line must be USCG Type A1 or A2 and the line from the fuel tank to the engine inlet must be type A1 or A2;

X2 on the uscg fuel lines

Excuse my lack of knowledge on those mercs but can you stick a new diaphragm (sp?) in the fuel pump or do you have to get a whole new pump?

GLG - I know you are up north but NAPA - car parts - carries all the parts for the motor and drive.

Well I got the tank out (Mirax mfr 7/85) instaled as a replacement on 5/87.Model #123 - gal 12

Gunk on the bottom (which is now gone and has a nice new shinny bottom.

Well this is what 20 years of gas will do to aluminum. Took the pickup tube out being brass the tube was riddled with corrosion holes like Swiss cheese, having a plumber friend make me a new one. Got to pick up a new sending unit electrical instead of mechanical one...

Re: '68 Holiday-V 120 Mercruiser I/O

TheWrks nice job on the tank. Not sure if you mentioned it but you might want to add a fuel water separator into your system. With the fuel that we get now a days, and into the future, seems that it?s getting important to have one of those.

GLG

Thanks GLG,

Yes I have been looking at getting a FWS after reading about all the problems people are having with E10 fuel and with the EPA talking about bumping it up to E15  A lot of new cars barely run properly with E10.

Thanks for the reminder :D

Plenty of nice old tin cans here in Michigan, you got one of the nicer ones:D

We will be planning some sort of get-together in Michigan at some point since there are plenty of us around the area;)

Good luck with the Holiday!
