I have a 68 Evinrude 3 cyl on my 14' MFG tri hull and in the summer months the motor ran fine. The only item that is not functional and I have not needed is the automatic choke - It has the ability to be done manually. It also has the ability to change the fuel mixture (lean to rich) on the front of the motor.
The problems are lately in the cold weather the boat is harder to start and I kinda understand this. The motor will run a little rough at idle but I can still get it to shift into gear. I then use the boat to position decoys and such at low speeds and it will work for a bit then just die. And it becomes real hard to restart the motor, Sunday it took two hours. The tempertures here in Central New York have been from say 32 - 40 degrees. At full there has been no problem and the boat acts like it did in summer.
Battery is fine and cranks well even in the cold.
Things I have done to remedy this:
Changed fuel tanks from old OMC metal to new plastic both 6 gal
New winter gas mixed 50:1 in tank with marine sta bil
new fuel line and bulb
changed spark plugs and inspected wires & other ignition parts(look fine)
Is there something I can do to make starts easier?
What might be causing the motor to die and how do I stop this ?
thanks
Glynn
