Re: 68 mercury 200 (20hp)

Are there only 3 things that it could be that caused the no spark. The coil, point, condenser? Is there something else. I tried a new spark plug just in case, that didn't seem to help. I'll swap the coils next, but I was wondering if there are other things it could be. Just a thought.

Did you have any luck swapping the coils around?

Re: 68 mercury 200 (20hp)

unfortunately i didn't get to it last night. Today is my bday so we are going out tonight so i'm guessing i wont tonight either. Maybe tomorrow. I found the points and condensers in town for about 30 bucks for all of them. I also went to northern tool last night and found fuel fittings for the primer bulb. 1 dollar for each fitting on clearance.:D So I got just about ever fitting I could ever need for this beast for like 10 bucks! Made my day! I'll let you know how the coil swap goes.

Re: 68 mercury 200 (20hp)

I did some research, I found these online. http://marineelectronicsplaza.com/sierrainternational18-5008ignitiontuneupmerc398-2203.aspx That seems like a good price and I'm almost certain those are the parts I need, but I cant see for sure. Anyone have any thoughts on if those are the right condenser and points. From what I found I need the points (398-2320) and the condenser (398-2203). This seems to be a set of the points and condensers. That would be convenient!

Hey laddies-
I just saw your post that you had a long time ago helping someone find the points they needed for their 67' merc 200. You said something about those points being the most common around. I can find that I need the 398-2320 part number, but nobody seems to have them or can get them. Am I looking for the right one? Or am I way off here? After talking to the local parts guy I'm totally lost:confused:

Re: 68 mercury 200 (20hp)

I'm stuck. I've replaced the points, coils, condensers. New fuel lines, new fuel pump, I'v cleaned he carb 3 times but now at full throttle I go about 2 miles an hour. It doesn't feel like it is running at full rpm but I have the throttle wide open.

What do I do next? What info do you guys need to know to help me diagnose this thing?
Thanks!
