I started my engine for the first time the other day in a 5 gal bucket. How much water should be coming out of the engine while running. It didn't look like much was coming out. A friend of mine said that it would probably be better to test it in the lake. I am thinking about replacing the water pump Is it difficult and where can I get parts for it?

Should be a heavy spray at all speeds. Your friend is correct, test it in the lake. The lower unit comes off to get at the pump. 4 bolts, drop it down enough to get a socket in there to remove the screw from the shift rod connector, then remove the gearcase from the motor. The water pump will be right there around the drive shaft. They have impellers here at iboats. For a complete water pump kit you have to go to a dealer.

Note: when you reinstall the lower unit, make sure the o-ring is on the top of the drive shaft and the seal is on top of the water pump housing. Also be extremely careful that the notch in the shift rod is aligned perfectly with the hole in the connector before installing the screw. If it isn't, it will wreck the screw and it will fall out on the other side of the lake.
