Re: 68 starcraft explorer restore

I am going to fill and repair some areas of the boat starting tonight. How should I make the peanut butter to fill small holes and scratches? All of my glassing supplies came in wed.

Re: 68 starcraft explorer restore

Nice start. I am doing a 1973 starcraft complete restore just right down the road in Pendleton. I haven't made as much progress I would have liked so far. I had 3 stringers covered in that thick rolling weave that are wood mush now. I was not going to go with foam after getting all mine up but have also opted to go with the two part pour in. Funny how hard finding a friend or neighbor to help lift an 85 HP Mercury is sometimes!!! lol

All the old paint is gone. My supplies will b n wed then I can repair a few spots and get to painting. We made plans to go to blood river on ky lake for the kids spring break. Cant wait a full week of camping and fishing with my two kids. 13 and 14. Girl and boy. I will b taking my backup 14 footer w a 7 hp. Anyone been down in that area.

A really good filler is made from resin, hardener and Glass bubbles. You need to sand the gouges and scratches, wash em all down with acetone and then mix the filler to the consistency of Mayonaise. For vertical applications a bit thicker.

Re: 68 starcraft explorer restore

Well I wanted to get the hull painted before winter. Didn't happen. Where did the time go. The family and I ended up going to alabama. Back in march. Good time even though the fishing was slow. I had rolled the boat outside when I was getting the my backup boat ready back in march. Sad to say it is still out there. I plan on .getting the snow off of it this Fri. And putting it back in the shop. I have since taken a different job out of town so my time to work on it will b limited to a couple days per week.

I mixed the MEKP just as the instructions said back last winter when I mixed up some filler. A coupe weeks ago we made a volcano with the glass I bought. It took over a day to set up. I know the shelf life on resin is around 3 months. What happens to it as it gets older. Can I still try to use it.
