Just a word of caution on the arrow heads that go at each end of the lower rub rails on the sides. Your stuff comes back from the chromers a little thinner due to polishing-be careful not to over tighten those bolts. I snugged mine down real well and over night one of them caved on me:eek:

NB,

Will keep at it with the camera and thanks for the tip on the arrowheads, I also read your tip for the transom corner caps and the heat gun. Thanks!!!

Bret, you'll need that heat gun on the lowers also if you replace the inserts. the fact that I didn't use the heat gun there could have contributed to the problem:mad:

Re: Starting a 68 Starchief Cuddy Restoration

Sorry about the lack of updates  I have purchased the material for the new cushions in the cuddy and am bartering the upholstery work. I am also building a set of stands similar to steve's tripod stands to support the boat off the trailer. The engine is being re-assembled by my friend, but I am going to wait till the boat is painted to install it. I am debating the paint type, am thinking of going the rustoleum route, with Kev's roll and roll method:D Will try and get some pics today.

I think Ezmobee used a rattle can on his topside...I am going to do the same probably on my topside...

But for the hull...Well, 2 rattle cans will be 10 bucks or more..And you can get a quart of Rustoleum for the same and get a lot more coverage and better results without worrying about over spray on other objects not meant to be painted..

YES DON'T DO IT. DON'T DON'T DON'T!!!!!

I did mine that way and it was a big mistake. Uses WAY too much paint. By the time you're done buying paint cans you could have paid someone to spray it for you. Plus the overspray is terrible. Mine looks ok but it has a fairly matte finish on what was supposed to be gloss paint. buy it in quarts and roll it on or roll and tip it.

I also sprayed my topsides and that didn't go TOO bad but not super great either.

Hey does anyone have experience with rustoleum painters touch brand? Regular rustoleum doesn't come in navy blue. The grey is the professional series light machine grey, that comes in gallons :)

Nope. My blue is from their "Metallics" line. I'm a big fan of it.

Trailer painting day! The weather was nice today so I gott out the rattle can and.....

I ordered some new keel rollers and a new strap winch from iboats.

I also started cutting the new side panels they are 8'-3" long so Iam going to have to figure something out, but the old ones were so rotted there was no re-using them. They are getting covered in Navy vinyl anyhow, so a joint is not really a big deal

Re: Starting a 68 Starchief Cuddy Restoration

Bret, my side panels were about 14 feet long so we had to join two peices together. We just joined them and scabbed a peice on the back. You just have to remember to leave about 4" at the bottom and at the top for the danged shelf they ride on and to clear the shelf for the cubby hole. And I think the joint has to be foreward of the vertical stringer the cubbyhole shelf attaches to. Hope that makes sense:confused:
