Back to work, gotta play catch up to some of you guys :p
Andy -your cluster is in the mail:D
Kev- your bowrail is on the floor under the transom pics, awaiting the right size box for the front piece;) I have a guy at home desperate says he will get me one tomorrow.
I got some work done on the transom, all glued and sanded, 2nd pic is after 3 coats of spar urethane, I was going to use epoxy resin, only I realised I didn't have enough, so call it a long term experiment. At least I can see the rot if it forms:rolleyes:

LOL Bret for your next one dont even bother with the 150-220 . I went stright for the Nortons 60 Grit ceramic disks that are supposed to last 3 times longer ( still dang near went through a box of 10 just on the bottom of the hull ) :D. I then hit all the rivets with 100 pounds of Kiddie sand ( Homie Desperate over in the concrete mix area ) :D. I used one of the small hopper guns from Harbor Freight worked quite well other than having to refill the hopper every 3-5 rivets :D.

Got her stripped down good. Would it be bad to use a 4 inch angle grinder and a wire brush on the rivets? It takes it down to the bare aluminum and you can hit it with zinc chromate.

Brad a better option if you want to use wire brush would be a 3/4" wire brush in a drill which bsically gets just the rivet and area right around it . I did this before going after the kiddie sand much quicker that way ( Plus now it looks like Daytona beach in my driveway ) :D:D.

LOL That's a good one Rick ! Hopefully this boat will never go bottoms up:eek: Brad- will be using a little water soluble stripper and then hit with a little 3/4" wire brush on the drill.:D

Re: 68 Starcraft Starchief 18' Cuddy Restoration

Got to work on her hind end this weekend.:D Transom installed after 7 coats of spar varnish, 16 thru bolts installed with 5200 and 15 wood screws on the inside with 5200, that's not counting the tow eyes and gimble bolts. It isn't going anywhere. Then I decided to enlarge the back deck by 3" as I was planning on replacing the aluminum there anyhow due to all the holes in it. So I made a new cross support and stiffening stringers for the deck. I am going to wait and drill the deck after everything is installed. I also filled all the other rivet holes in the remainder of the deck and hull with corresponding pop rivets. I had a little assistant (my son David) for the riveting:)

I just read the thread and noticed you used the stone spray paint in the gunwales. I have used that paint in the past and found it to be terrible when it got wet. I used it on picture frames and the ones in the bathroom flaked all off in no time. I sealed them up with a clear coat and they still are good 10 years later.

Thanks for the heads up, I may shoot them with a clearcoat.

Got her looking good. I hope that my project will go as well. I'm serriously considering going to the inboard int the one i'm going to look at (??pick-up??) tomorrow. I have an older (70's) Johnson 115 that runs great (but drinks the juice) to put on her to see how she does before i get too far in the resto.

I refurbed the trailer a bit today and have new tires for the 7 hour round trip.
