Finally have some time to start breaking down this old boat. My goal is to have it in the water this spring so hopefully we will have another mild winter.
Previous owner gutted the floor and gunwales. He gave me a box of nuts n screws and pieces of aluminum... Should be interesting.

I started on trying to remove the transom. Looks like I need to remove the splashwell in order to reach the side nuts.
I drilled out the rivets running vertical.
Would anyone know if there are hidden rivets under the black horizontal molding?

Didn't want to remove the rubber molding because it's tucked in tight around the end.
Wondering if the sides will slide down with a little more force.

Thanks much for your help with all this!

There won't be any hidden rivets or fasteners if you take the boat apart in the reverse order in which it was built, but if you miss taking a piece off that needs to come off... then yes, some fasteners will hide until you figure the disassembly sequence.

There really isn't any shortcuts, you just have to keep taking stuff off/apart until you can get to the piece you need... and just because you don't want to take a piece off, doesn't mean that piece doesn't have to come off.

Tin boats are pretty easy to take apart and put back together when you get the puzzle figured out.

Thanks Jig,
Yea this is not rocket science. I don't mind at all removing the rubber trim, just trying to not create extra work and expense by digging into that.
Let the learning curve begin..

Ha, thanks JBcurt, yea, I will tear it apart and get the ol splash guard out.. not too big a deal..
IPE is on my mind daily. Thank you for bringing that up again! My bro-in-law has a planner so I plan on running my board through that to end up with 1/2" planks.. after reading this sinking boat story posted by dave 524, I know a lighter boat in any way could be life saving (along with extra boat flotation).

I have been trying to decide on weather a wood or aluminum truss support system should be used, along with the attachment method of the plank being secured. Many unknowns but I think that is part of the fun.

Hey neighbor Dave, I'm over in the Ada/Lowell stretch of woods, not too far from you. Love your V5 22 footer with an OB! that is a killer boat. Lets put some down riggers on it! jk.

Ok, splash well is out (yup, rivets under the black molding). So much easier cleaning up the hull now.
transom.jpg

Removed all the screws n nuts in the transom and hope to have it out tomorrow. Not a big transom and looks like SC built it in 3 pieces. Seems odd they would put in a 3 piece design.

The Holiday has a gas cap and old line still attached. No tank included with my purchase. Anyone know what size or location the original was located? I like the idea of getting the tank in the bow for weight but I am open to any suggestions you have on this. Motor is a 70hp 2 cycle, so I'm not sure how much fuel this 3 banger will drink on a day fishing trip.

Hey, Welcome to the fun of boat restoration!! I can see you are well on your way. What has really helped me out is I take digital photographs of everything before I take it apart and during if it gets a little complicated. I document everything in a binder too. When ever I take a part off the boat, I try to bag it with some instructions on how to re install it someday......all of this because my memory is not the greatest........uh, what was I talking about???
Oh ya, document, keep organized and ask for help here when you need it!
Good luck!
