Found this today .Looks like a problem no doubt. I have a '59 super seahorse and am wondering if I can make that parts work. Any ideas? Also would be nice to know what that peace is called! LOL
This motor cranks over fine and I am hoping to get it on the water in the next month or so. Gonna clean carb and so far I got spark but the bottom cylinder isn't sparking .

here is the one off the '59. I am thinking it won't work but might be screwed then as I would have no idea where to find a replacement.

If it were ,I'd be the fool TD :)

it is a '69 33HP

I have a '59 parts engine. I started out with intentions of making wake with the '59 but I got this other which is electric start with the key and it cranks great for like a 100 bux. electric choke too! Plus the boat I wanna put it on is a '69 so it would be period correct.

Part number 309188 gear, throttle control---1969 33hp
Part number 305387 gear, throttle control---1959 35hp

Different parts. In fact there aren't a whole lot of parts that will interchange between those motors.

there,s like a billion of those 69 era 33 or 40,s out there so maybe find another parts motor.me i used the same part from a old 56 30 hp tiller to get my 70 33 tiller operational.let me tell you those 33,s are very strong motors im still amazed at how much power mine has.

Re: '69 33 HP Johnson

Since the '59 is a parts motor anyway, I would just pull the part to see if it fits/works with the '69 33hp. Many of the parts numbers now shown for various items are actually superseded numbers, so a differing number may or may not mean the parts being compared are dissimilar.

I agree with F R that most of the parts on the two motors are not going to swap, but I'm not certain of that one. It can't hurt to try it - it will either fit/function properly, or it won't. You'll know which it is pretty quickly.

It does indeed fit! The only difference is there is an adjustment idle screw on the bottom of the old one but I can fabricate one of these easy. Cool!
Now I will be able to hook the remote controls up.

One thing I noticed is that where the tiller handle would be there is a lelctor knob that goes from start to slow to fast. When you turn it It advances the timing , but when I turned the armit will not go to the fast position.
