Hi all, not really new here but forgot my password to my last account and don't have access to the email I used so I couldn't reset it.

Anyways, I recently fixed my last problem where the reverse wouldn't work. Turned out to be a broken wire about an inch above the lower solenoids.
So I had drained the gear lube, removed the prop(the manual said to), removed the trim tab and hidden bolts, removed bolts to drop lower unit, cautiously withdrew the driveshaft and took care of the broken wire. Reseated the lower unit, reinstalled the bolts, trim tab, and prop. Then refilled the gear lube.
So, to test it all, I hooked up the muffs and kicked her on. Happily, my forward, neutral, and reverse all work now. WOOHOO!!!

But I noticed that when I increased the throttle even a slight bit (I know not to bump it up with muffs, this was only slightly faster than idle) fuel would start leaking down the left side of the motor and pooling on the cav plate.
So I tried to find where it was happening with just some looking, but couldn't spot it. It looked like the drip was coming from the fuel line leaving the fuel pump to the cabs. But I'm not sure if its the tube, the fuel pump, or the carbs.

So theres that.
Then after killing it, I noticed a gray sludge oozing from the exhaust. I started freaking out thinking I had a gear lube leak from a seal behind the prop.
Do I?
Or could this be build up from the engine not being run in a few months. I hope this is the case.

Any suggestions on either problem?

You put oil in the gas to lubricate the motor. Some of it gets burned (that's the smoke), but a lot of it does not burn, especially at idle. The unburned stuff gets mixed and emulsified with hot water from the cooling system and goes out the exhaust. That's the sludgy stuff you see. It's normal. Now that you know, don't worry about it.

well i would pump the prime bulb really hard, and watch for the leak, change the hose 1st the cheapest. check that the connections are tight. if it's original all the rubber needs to be changed.

Thanks for the responses guys.
I'm glad I don't have to worry about the sludge. So just blow it all out at full throttle then?

As for the leak, I ordered a few carb kits and I'm gonna rebuild those. They need it anyways. So if its a leaky gasket, that might take care of it.
Good idea on priming the bulb alot. That should pressurize it enough to see something, hopefully.
