69 55hp water pump pics with questions?

hi my name is myke an i have a 55hp 1969 johnson i have rebuilt the water pump an the seal ring number 75 in the blown up pic of the water pump looks like it slides over the cover impeller housing 3.jpg just like this5.jpg but then it provides a o ring that im not sure if it goes in the groove at the top of the shaft that goes up inside the motor or if the o ring goes down where i have placed it in this picture 1.jpg it really dosent fit inside the shaft an when i took the foot off the was not a o ring here is a pic of 75 an 76 thanks for all your help an thanks iboats for all the parts

The way you have explained it, you have everything in place except for that last O-ring. There should be an O-ring at the base of the splines that go into the end of the crankshaft. Did you have an O-ring just below the splines when you disassembled the unit? That O-ring (#76) is to help retain the spline grease between the drive-shaft and the crankshaft to keep them from seizing together.

The seal you have on the top of the hsg is correct. The o-ring you're talking about should fit in a gruve in the top of the driveshaft. Don't forget to grease the sides of the splines on the d/s and not the top.
