69 Evenrude 40hp

Hello all,
I have a friend looking to get into boating on the cheap. Could this be a decent motor once it gets running? Or is it not worth the effort...

From the Craigslist posting:
69 evinrude 40 hp - $200
its a selectric shift and i have all the controls to get it going, i recently fired it up but i think i fried the cylinoid it just clicks. just have no more use for, it give me a call thanks for looking, and i am open to offers but be reasonable

IMHO I'd stay away from it. It's an old mtr and parts are getting hard to find for it especially the lower unit and they are expensive. Including the shift switch.

Yeah, look for a mechanical shift motor in demonstrated running condition.
