I have a 69 evinrude 115 that hadn't run in seven years so I replaced the impeller, rebuilt the carbs, and even put in a new thermostat (vernatherm). When I ran it for the first time, on cuffs, at idle it got warm enough that I couldn't hold my hand on either head for a ten count and still no water from the tell tale. I didn't put full hose pressure on the cuffs, should the cuffs be used full pressure?

You're almost there. You need to replace the water pump. It is a wear item and probably shot after the seven year nap.

are you positive that the water tube is lined up. they have a tendency to move to the side when installing. drop the lower enough to make sure.

Thanks for the input. One question, is there a second waterpump on these? I thought replacing the impeller was replacing the pump.

there is only one pump, what he is referring to is the housing gets worn. it should still pump water, check the alignment of the water tube. did you replace the gromet that goes in the water pump outlet, that the water tube goes into.

Re: 69 evinrude 115 overheating?

Went to check the tube and realized I forgot to mention there are two tubes on this thing. They are indeed lined up. Didn't replace the grommets, will do so, could that be the reason water is coming out of everywhere except the telltale? Also, maybe I'm being premature with this since I'm shutting down before hot alarm. The "normal" for the hot switch is normally open correct? Is it possible these bigger motors don't like running on cuffs? Thanks again for all your help
