Bought my 1st boat, used. Previous owner had installed a car coil so it would run at sale.
Have installed a power pak, (OUCH!), and coil, both new and the correct ones for the engine. 1969 55 hp Evinrude. Model# 55esl69A. When switch is on, I can hear power pak clicking but no fire coming out of the coil. I have no idea if something else may have been removed to make the car coil work or what may be the problem if it's all there. Note with power pak said to check for a shorted rectifier. Where might that bugger be and what does it look like. Any thought's on what else may cause the problem are welcome
THX, Niles

Check for spark. Pull plugs so the engine turns easier and try to make the spark jump a half inch to the block when cranking. Make sure you have spark to all cylinders and we'll go from there.
