I am in the final stages of sanding and have a few questions about paint. My budget is aprox. $500 and I would like to use Awlgrip 2000 topcoat. Would Petit Perfect epoxy primer work well under the Awlgrip? The Awlgrip primer is expensive.

Thanks,

Duke

Ayuh,.... Whether yer usin' Rustoleum, or Awlgrip,...

You should use a single manufacturer's painting System...

X2 ^^^ Bond-o has told you correct. It's never a good Idea to mix and match. You can sometimes get away with it IF you check the chemical specs but with the High End stuff, best to stay with *** for Tat!!!

Well that sucks. Can someone recommend an inexpensive paint system? I have a guy who will spray it for me but every product he recommends is out of my price range.

BigLee324,
I'm not looking to go that low budget. I would be happy in the $400-$500 range. I would like to use a filling epoxy primer, sand it, top coat, add my color stripes and then clear coat it. Any advice would be greatly apriciated.

Thanks,
Duke

Check out the Pettit EasyPoxy system. Or you could use any quality Auto Paint as long as this is a Trailered boat and not left in the marina long term.

Well I dont know which Petit Perfect epoxy primer your asking about.

545 primer ( awlgrip ) is only like 60 bucks for a qt of the primer and converter + the thinner of course.

The Petit Perfect epoxy primer that I just looked up was 40+ bucks ( didnt give you 2 qts though ). And that stuff is considered a bottom Barrier primer.

545 goes a LONG way.

YD.
