Now here is a good one. Replaced skeg of my 69' Johnson 33 Hp with a skeg off a '59 35 Hp Super Sea horse. Same number stamped in skeg , exact same gears and bearings and everything in the '59 as in the '69. One difference, I moved the clutch dog and the spring shot on off the bearings off into outer space! The Prop shaft from the '59 is solid and has not hole where the spring and two ball bearings on either end go. I just replaced my 69' prop shaft with the 59' So I don't have to go on a quest to find another bearing to compinsate for the lost one . Will this make any difference? I am hoping no ! Everything is the same except this one little thing and the clutch dog moves just fine as it should as far as I can tell. Sorry for the long post

That will work as long as there is absolutely no play in the shift linkage. The detent balls and spring compensate for any possible shift linkage play.
