'69 Lightwin 4hp - does it have a tell-tale?
I have a '69 Evinrude Lightwin 4hp. (I think I do - serial is 4906B-E04662.) I started it this morning for the first time, in a test tank. Should there be a tell-tale cooling water stream exiting the engine somewhere? I didn't see one, and shut it off.

There are two vertical rows of four holes each, about half-way down the shaft. These look greasy, but no water exits. There are a couple small holes in the bottom cowling, but I didn't verify whether they correspond to holes in the block or not.

If there's no tell-tale, where does the cooling water exit? Will I need to use muffs instead of a test tank to verify that water is circulating? The lower unit has a fin that gets in the way of my round cup muffs. I've seen pictures of rectangular cup muffs in the West Marine catalog, maybe they would fit?

Thanks!

-Jim
