Ok.. So I'll try to explain this as best as possible. My 1969 80 hp (sn 2664700) has a "Y" fitting on one of the fuel pumps. Fitting #22-54818
My Manual says it's for the upper pump. But....it only fits the lower pump #54817. I've looked at all the diagrams I can find, even my OEM manual, and cannot resolve this. Has anyone got a photo of the fuel lines/pumps for this motor? It would surely be a big help
Thanks,
Ed

Re: '69 Mercury800EL Fuel Pump dilemma

Ed, heres a parts link, some pumps are hooked as shown and some did not have a pump with 2 outlets so the used a Y fitting. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...PUMP+AND+FUEL+LINE+ASSEMBLY+-+DUAL+FUEL+PUMPS

Thanks Laddies... I have a Merc Manual and a complete parts listing.
My problem is they are not clear...

The part number on the Y indicates it fits the upper pump. (22-54818)
The part number on the pump indicates it's a lower pump. (54817)

The Y is threaded 1/2" npt, all the other holes are 3/8ths NF
Both pumps seem to be the same, I'm wondering if the different part number might reflect the 1/2'' hole. Could this be an error in the manual? Would it be ok to put the pump/Y setup in the upper location?
Thanks for your help It's a pleasure to have a Pro like you on this forum!
Regards,
Ed

Re: '69 Mercury800EL Fuel Pump dilemma

The part number 54817 is for the larger hole yes and I have had some pump casings with a third hole instead of a Y fitting so I don't see were the Y fitting on the top pump matters at all, some inline 6s had a outlet on the top pump going to the top carb and one from the bottom pump to the bottom carb and all 3 carbs hook to gether with Ts or Y fittings so I don't think it matters much were the Ys are.

Re: '69 Mercury800EL Fuel Pump dilemma

As always... Thank you very much Laddies!
I believe I have come up with a suitable configuration. May I have your Professional opinion Please? Also, It has been mentioned, One pump might be a primary and the other a secondary. I mic'd both valve chambers and booster chambers and could find no major differences Your thoughts please?

Thanks Again
Ed

Ed, that looks better than factory and should work fine.
