Runs well, fuel seeping from carb. Gonna put kit in. It sure seems like a cork float, although darkened it was fine. Should I just get the Seirra 18-7043, or spend a few bucks more and get 0439071 Johnrude kit with a replacemnt float. Also come reassembly time, any tips for port side carb mount nut?Looks like it is gonna be a booger. Looks like pulling flywheel would make it easier to get nut started.

Absolutely get the replacement float. To get that nut on the carb take the top bolts out of the starter bracket this will let you lean the recoil away from the nut. ONLY LEAN it do not pull up on the recoil and only lean it far enough to get the nut otherwise the recoil will pop off and you will need to re-wind the spring.

flying scott is correct, however you do have to pull it up just far enough to lift it out of the bottom bearing, then lean it over. Don't let it scare you, it won't go sproing while laying there.

starboard, you must not be into old motors. Cork floats were used for many years, before they came out with more modern materials. In fact, they are still being produced for some models. But new cork floats have an ethanol-resistant coating instead of the old shellac coating which ethanol eats away. The new float for your 6hp is made of modern material though.

well the rebuild and install went well. I had plenty of room tilting the starter forward and keeping the black throttle lever off until the port nut was on. Now the only shady part was the low speed adjustment packing. Couldnt tell how many packing washers were in there cause it was a gummy mess. I put in 2, if it leaks at least it is easy to get to. Was nervous as can be waiting for the started to unwind and jump. I had the mower get me before
