I ordered new reeds and gaskets for the plate... I probably could have re-used the reeds since I was able to bend the offending one back flat. I'll just add them to my pile of parts! We'll see what happens when this puppy is back together.

Handirifle
Am I possibly looking at a crudded up piston/head situation as well?

I don't think so. Symptoms caused by a dirty piston/head would happen all the time not every other run. Just my 2 cents...

I don't think straightening a reed is EVER a good idea (unless you have no other choice).
There is now a potential fatigue spot...and if it should ever break...:eek:

For the cost involved, I'd suggest that you pitch it so you are never tempted to reuse it.

All just IMO, of course.

Yeah, probably should toss em... I really didn't have to "bend" the reed, just a little coaxing got it to lay flat so being the cheap steak(i don't skate) that i am the thought crossed my mind about reusing...:redface:

Well, I cleaned up the reed plate and installed it with new reeds and gaskets and the motor still didn't start any better:(. I'm starting to lose my marbles over this motor. I initially saw alot of gas leaking out the carb after the first pull, so I'm wondering if it's the cork float not floating. I hate to buy another carb kit, but it's definitely a fuel issue. I could get it to idle but eventually it would sneeze and die, which I thought meant it's running lean. But if it's running lean why can i see gas in the throat of the carb???

:confused::confused::confused:
