You gotta love those Duck Hunters!! Just got an UGLY 6hp long shaft that (naturally) was rattle-can painted camo, and the transom tag said it is a 6902M. My research says I have a 1969 Evinrude 6hp, however, when I started to clean the thing up, I noticed that:
1. Everything under the cowl is white (including the lower end that is white under the camo paint). There are no white evinrude powerheads of that vintage.
2. This thing has a CD pack on it, and I don't think OMC used those that early.
3. The bolts holding the motor assembly to the transom bracket are new, as are the rubber bushings.
I believe that the only thing Evinrude on this motor is the blue transom bracket, and that it is bolted to a Johnson, but of what vintage? How do I tell?
By the way, these old workhorses are tough, as this one runs like a top! It's just ugly.
