Here is the deal...I took my boat for the first time and had all kinds of problems getting it on the trailer, and then I forgot to turn the motor off. My engine ran for about three minutes before I jumped in and shut it off. From what I understand, I screwed up the impeller. Today I took it out with the family and it ran up to about 220 degrees and I shut it down. After a little cool down period, I made a mad dash for the marina. I didn'n make it, engine was smoking from the heat, but I got a tow in the last quarter mile by some nice folks that stoped to check on us. I also had a couple of guys get in the water with me to pull the boat over to the trailer so I could load it up. Boat people are so cool!! On the Bravo three it looks to me like the belt driven seawater pump has failed. I just hope I didn't blow my head gaskets! Does this sound like problem here??

Among other things, you certainly cooked the impeller in the seawater pump on the front of your engine.
I imagine you also fubared every exhaust hose, the flappers, and who knows what else.
More than likely the drive was in "trailer up" for those 3 mminutes, that's hell on the ujoints, too.
As for the engine itself, hard to say.
3 minutes of dry running is not a good thing.
Add to that the 2 times after the incident where you ran it in the water w/o any water flow.
If the engine's not cooked, it's a miracle.

O'Boy...If you got it too hot, the engine internals may seize after it cools down :( . You very well could have spun a main bearing getting it that hot. I would be willing to bet it got waaaaaay hotter that 220 degrees to begin smoking. May your repair bill not put you in the poor house my friend ;)

You will NOT spin bearings, and sieze pistons at 220°. That is only slightly warm from normal for automotive. 260 to 280 for extended periods will sieze engines and spin bearings.
There will be a lot of rubber pieces needing to be replaced, but I doubt (if the engine never exceded 220°) that any major damage was done.
However, not paying attention to such things as running dry for 3 minutes, going to the water without checking anything AFTER that 3 minute problem, and a mad dash after a short cool down all points to a lack of forward thinking.

I agree with you DonS.
But we do have a couple of "X" factors here, too. How hot did it get on that "3 minute" raw running time while on the trailer? How much cool down time was there on the first overheat in the water? If the motor was hot, and somehow he got a blast of cold water to it, it could be crack time. But since the impeller was almost certainly trashed from the trailer incident, it probably was moving no water at all, so that didn't happen! One case where total destruction of an impeller is a good thing??
Duke, if you have mechanical skill and want to do the work yourself, get the appropriate service manual, and follow it. You'll spend a lot of money on rubber parts, and a lot of time checking things. If you don't have that skill, take it to a mechanic, and bend over. Cause you will spend a fortune on parts, and labor.
Happy waiting to go boating. Best of luck.
