7.5 & 5.5 Johnson Similarities

Can anyone tell me if a 1956 7.5hp Johnson and a 1958 5.5hp Johnson have have interchangeable lower units?

Motors 08001 and up used the same gear case in 56 and 58 with both the 7.5 and 5.5, 08000 and lower were different, i'm thinking this is SN related.
